Agli inizi del XXI secolo, la popolazione della Terra sta per sfiorare i 10 miliardi di abitanti. Troppi, al punto che le risorse potrebbero non bastare, portando un intero pianeta al collasso biologico. A meno di non cambiare radicalmente la stessa natura dell'uomo, fino a permettergli di sopravvivere in nuovi ambienti. Ma qualcosa funziona anche fin troppo benne e in una notte d'incubo, l'intero gruppo di ricerca viene letteralmente fatto a pezzi. Pochi giorni dopo, un misterioso pacco viene consegnato a Tekeshi Yoroi, aiutante di Jo Kuruma, il più sgangherato detective di Tokyo Plus. E' l'inizio dell'ultima leggenda dell'umanità.
